Big Bend's athletic conference gets new name, logo
MOSES LAKE - Big Bend Community College's athletic conference is getting a slight facelift.
The former Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) will now be referred to as the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC), executive director Marco Azurdia announced Tuesday.
The new name will also be accompanied by a new primary and secondary logo.
"Today we begin to make the transition to a new logo(s) and a new acronym in our efforts to develop our conference brand," Azurdia said in a press release. "The transition will take time as there are many items to work through.
"Though the logo(s) and acronym may be new, we can still say 'NWAC' and we will continue our commitment to elevate the conference by providing more than what is expected and give student-athletes the experience they deserve."
According to Azurdia, research showed that the former logo was large and difficult to transpose onto different materials.
Along with being smaller, the new logo contains four stars to represent the four regions in the conference.
The link to the NWAC home page was also changed to www.nwacsports.com.
Big Bend has five sports that compete in the NWAC: volleyball, women's basketball, men's basketball, baseball and softball.
