Goetz earns West Coast win at Ephrata Raceway Park

EPHRATA - The West Coast Street Stock Racing Series (WCSS) converged upon Ephrata Raceway Park's quarter-mile asphalt on Saturday.

They were joined by the Schaeffer Oil mini stocks and the Kim Janke State Farm Agent/Pioneer Muffler II super cars.

Dave Lund, of Arlington, took the early lead in the seventy-five-lap main event in the West Coast Street Stocks. Lund held the top spot for seventeen laps.

Meanwhile, Bryon Goetz, of Okanogan, started at the rear of the field and patiently worked his way through the pack.

Goetz grabbed the lead from Lund on lap 18. However, Brad Morrison, of Moses Lake, was lurking in Goetz's shadow and was running in the second spot.

Goetz's car was on rails and pulled out to a commanding lead. With two laps remaining, Goetz was slowed by a group of slower cars racing side by side.

Goetz's big lead disappeared as Morrison closed the gap. On the last lap, Morrison moved to the inside of Goetz as they shot out of turn four.

Goetz was able to push the nose of his racecar across the finish line just ahead of Morrison to take the main event victory. Andy Beaman, of Selah, nudged his way to a third place finish while Randy Pugh, of Moses Lake, and Troy Lannoye, of East Wenatchee, finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Kelly Olsick had the right setup in his mini stock. The Soap Lake driver posted the fastest qualifying time and won a trophy dash.

Olsick started at the rear of the field in the twenty lap main event. With a mad dash to the front, Olsick powered his way to the front to take the lead on lap four.

Ephrata's John Hagood chased Olsick for fifteen laps, but was unable to catch Olsick. Olsick took the victory with Hagood and Dianna Schiable of Moses Lake taking the second and third positions.

Ethan Smith of Moses Lake took the checkered flag in the Kim Janke State Farm Agent V6 Super Cars. Ephrata's Jen Black won the Pioneer Muffler II V6 Supers main event.
