High speed chase lands Quincy man in jail

MOSES LAKE - A Quincy man, allegedly driving with a stolen trailer, led deputies on a high-speed pursuit reportedly reaching about 80 mph Friday afternoon.

It was after motorists noticed part of the trailer load falling onto state Route 17.

Motorists called 911 about 3:30 p.m. when part of the trailer load, including a sink, began falling onto state Route 17 near milepost 65. The sink reportedly struck another vehicle. Nobody was injured in the vehicle hit by the sink, according to Kyle Foreman of the sheriff's office.

Deputies were able to find the vehicle about 3 miles down the road near Moses Lake when the driver, identified as Joe M. Yancey, 46, allegedly did not pull over and a pursuit ensued, reaching speeds of at least 80 mph, according to the sheriff's office.

Yancey reportedly bailed out of the vehicle in a field at Road D.5 Northeast and McConihe Road Northeast. Deputies and Moses Lake police searched the area and found Yancey at Connelly Park. The trailer Yancey was towing was found to be reported stolen out of Spokane Valley, according to the sheriff's office.

Yancey was booked into Grant County Jail on suspicion of felony eluding and possession of a stolen vehicle. He was also arrested on outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court for driving while license suspended and DUI.

The sheriff's office is still investigating the incident.
