Ritville tops Royal girls

| January 3, 2014 5:00 AM

ROYAL CITY - The Royal girls dropped a 62-41 non-league high school basketball game to Ritzville last Saturday but had some good spurts.

Royal tied the second and fourth periods, 13-13, but Ritzville won the first, 17-6, and the third, 19-9.

"We had our chances," coach Paul Olsufka said. "We gave up too many easy baskets in transition. We also missed too many easy shots in the paint. We were only down 10 with six minutes to go and didn't execute down the stretch."

The Knights were led by the 12 points of Flor Araujo. Kayla Smith added seven. Brittany Hebdon had five rebounds, and Kailee Harris had four. Araujo had three steals.
