Dent announces candidacy for Warnick's seat

MOSES LAKE - Long-time Moses Lake businessman and former chair of the Grant County Republican Party Tom Dent announced this week his candidacy for the 13th District seat in the state House of Representatives.

Dent's announcement comes after Rep. Judy Warnick's decision to run for the state Senate seat currently held by Sen. Janéa Holmquist Newbry, who is running to replace Rep. Doc Hastings in Congress.

"I am excited to bring my knowledge and energy to Olympia," Dent said. "I have contacted many citizens within the 13th District and am humbled by the support I have received from them. I look forward to representing the citizens of the 13th District and the issues that are key to them."

Dent is a commercial pilot and flight instructor, spending many hours in the air over much of the district. In addition to being in the crop protection and enhancement business, he also owns a small ranch raising hay, cattle and buffalo. He has been involved with many business organizations, church and youth activities as well as serving as chair of the Grant County Republican Party.

Dent moved to the Basin in 1955 at the age of 5. His many years as an agricultural pilot have allowed him to be involved in a variety of issues associated with production agriculture. Dent has also served on the Moses Lake Airport Commission since 1994.

Dani Bolyard, another former chair of the Grant County Republican Party, told the Columbia Basin Herald she also plans to run for the 13th District seat. More information on her announcement will be in Friday's print edition of the Herald.
