New test center opens at BBCC
MOSES LAKE - Students taking placement tests for Big Bend Community College now have a new, more secure location, and a new schedule starting March 1.
Placement tests for English and math are given at Building 1000, 7976 Northeast Bolling St., across Patton Boulevard from the main campus. "The newly remodeled testing center allows us to serve more students in a more secure setting. It provides protection of the integrity of our testing programs," BBCC President Terry Leas said.
Students will have more days to take tests at the new site, but beginning March 1 tests will be by appointment only, testing center coordinator Margie Lane said.
Students will be able to take tests Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, said Doug Sly, the college's public information officer. Previously students took tests in the math/science building, one day per week, Sly said.
College officials are working to build an online testing site, with a launch date to be announced, Lane said.
Students pay a $10 fee for each test, which must be paid prior to testing at the BBCC business office in the Student Center/Administration Building 1400, Sly said. Students must present the receipt and photo ID at the testing center before they can take the test, he said. The business office opens at 7:30 a.m. each day.
Any personal belongings, including cellphones, backpacks or books, will be locked in secure storage during testing, Sly said.
The testing center is monitored by eight cameras while people are in the room, Sly said. Monitoring is required for the college to host a certified testing center, he said.
Students can schedule a test by calling the center, 509-793-2064.
