Wahluke & Royal ready for 41st Regional Prep Art Show

YAKIMA - This year's ESD 105 Regional High School Art Show has been moved to the JA (Junior Achievement) World facility in Yakima and, as usual, Royal and Wahluke will be represented.

According to the ESD 105's David Goener, the change of venue will give visitors an opportunity to check out some of the educational resources JA World is providing for the area's students. It is located at 650 University Way in Terrace Heights.

The exhibit will be on display from Feb. 21-28. The opening reception will be on Sunday, Feb. 23, from 2-3:30 p.m. The awards presentation will begin at 2:15 p.m.

Awards will be presented to seven students whose work will advance to OSPI's statewide Superintendent's High School Art Show. That exhibit will be displayed at the Old Capitol Building in Olympia April 7-May 29.

Additionally, up to two of the local pieces not advancing to the OSPI show will receive the "ESD 105 Board Choice Award" and will be purchased by the ESD 105 Board of Directors for permanent display as part of the ESD 105 student art collection inside the ESD 105 Conference Center at Yakima.

The juror for this year's Regional Show is Dr. Shari Stoddard, associate professor in art education and director of the Visual Art Teaching Program at Central Washington University.

Each participating teacher will be submitting up to five pieces of their students' work.

Entries are expected to include paintings, graphite, pen and ink, mixed media, sculpture, and jewelry.

Teachers began arriving with their entries last Thursday. It will probably not be known until this Friday how many pieces will be in the show and which schools will be represented.

On Monday, Feb. 24, information will be released on the regional winners whose work will be advancing to the statewide show in the spring.
