Runnin' Vikes down Walla Walla
MOSES LAKE - The Big Bend Runnin' Vikes are making a late season surge.
Big Bend (8-4, 19-7) has won four in a row and have clinched a spot in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) tournament.
Currently, the team trails Treasure Valley by one game for first place in the East region.
Behind 35 points and nine rebounds from sophomore guard Brendan Westendorf, the Vikes outlasted Walla Walla Saturday, 84-69. Sophomore guards Kevin Walker and Victor Aguero added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Freshman forward Richard Black recorded a double-double with 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Big Bend did an outstanding job taking care of the ball and finished the game with only six turnovers.
Big Bend travels to face Wenatchee Valley Wednesday before closing the regular season at home against Spokane Feb. 22 at 4 p.m.
Lady Vikings fall to Warriors
Big Bend women's basketball (6-6, 16-10) was unable to contain Walla Walla's Jessica Siler and the Vikings fell, 83-72.
The Vikings narrowly hold on to the final playoff spot in the East region and can clinch a berth in the NWAACC tournament with wins in their final two games.
Freshman guard/forward Riley Jemmett scored a team-high 22 points. Freshman guard Aubrie Vale and sophomore forward Jessica Sorensen scored 13 and 12 points, respectively.
However, Walla Walla's Siler exploded for 29 points and 18 rebounds.
