An emotional goodbye as MLHS defeats Ike on Senior Night, 58-46
MOSES LAKE - It was an emotional goodbye for Moses Lake High School basketball coach John Hohman, as he and the home crowd said farewell to a group of seniors that have been with him for all four years that he has been with the program.
"Our seniors are a special group. This is kind of a sad night, Even though we won, it is tough to say goodbye to those guys,"
MLHS beat the visiting Eisenhower Cadets, 58-46, on Senior Night, the last home game of the season.
The Chiefs began the game with outstanding energy, and great pressure defense, forcing four turnovers in the back court in the first quarter. The Chiefs led after the first, 15-10.
MLHS led 31-20 at the half, but struggled to stop the Cadets, and their lead shrank to 31-27 before Derek Martinez hit his only basket of the game, a clutch three-pointer that got the crowd back into it.
Sophomore Center Ceasar Sandoval led all scorers with 13 points, including 3-3 from the foul line and had 10 rebounds.
Senior Nick Sutherland consistently brought pressure on defense and shot lights out from the field hitting all four of his shots. Sutherland finished with 11 points, two rebounds and no turnovers.
Seniors Jace Hunt scored four points and had two steals and Josh Hirz scored three points and had seven rebounds.
At the end of the game, Hohman could not talk enough about how proud he was of his seniors.
"They've done everything that I've asked. They've accepted roles that I don't know that I would have accepted at their age. It is a testament to who they are and the families that they come from," he said.
