Mark Andrew Yosting
Long time Moses Lake resident Mark Andrew Yosting, affectionately known as "Goat" to his students, passed away peacefully surrounded with love and family in his home on February 6, 2014. Mark was born to Joan Dannewig Yosting and Bert Yosting on March 4, 1951 in West Seattle, WA. He was the oldest sibling to Sandra Daskam Mayville, Steve Yosting and Tracy Daskam Conway.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Moses Lake, WA. A luncheon in celebration of Mark's life will be held immediately following the Mass in the Fatima (CCD) Center adjacent to the church.
Mark graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1970, where he met the love of his life, Katherine L. "Kathy" Krumm. They wed on March 17, 1973 and shared nearly 41 years together; their son, Matthew Ryan Yosting was born on October 10, 1983.
Soon after joining the United States Army in 1971, he and Kathy moved to San Antonio, TX where he was stationed to work as a dental technician while serving his country. When his service was complete, they returned to Moses Lake, WA and Mark attended Big Bend Community College, where he earned an AA Degree. Soon after, he began working for the Grant County Training Center, helping to train youth for success in skilled jobs. Mark's love of cars led him to working in the Parts Dept. at Moses Lake Ford and then at Leaf's Volkswagen. He began his dream job, combining his love of cars and helping youth, when he started teaching advanced teaching classes to high school students at Big Bend Community College in December of 1996. He volunteered his training and taking his students to compete in Skills USA and with the VICA club. His students achieved multiple awards and recognition in vocational competitions. An engaging, funny, inspirational teacher, Mark touched the lives of many of his students and co-workers.
Having an active social life, Mark was a member of the Sand Commandos 4x4 club, the Moses Lake Yacht club, Skills USA, VICA and Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. He enjoyed skiing, fishing, hunting, jet skiing, cars, his Harley Davidson, 4x4ing and boating. Affectionately known as "Sugar Bear" in the Sand Commandos club, he enjoyed spending time in the sand dunes and mud racing his Jeep. Many weekend and day trips were enjoyed cruising on his and Kathy's Harley Davidson motorcycles. Boating and time spent on the water on the "Costa-Lotta" boat was the source of many life-long friendships and treasured memories. Mark made friends everywhere he went exploring and camping on the boat with family and friends in the San Juan islands, on Lake Chelan, Moses Lake, Lake Roosevelt, the Columbia River in the Tri-Cities area, Lake Pend Oreille and Lake Coeur d' Alene. With his quick wit, hilarious sense of humor, his knack for practical jokes and contagious laugh, Mark left a lasting impression with everyone he met.
Practical jokes and his teasing nature aside, he was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and dedicated teacher. Mark never knew a stranger and had a genuine interest in people and loved sharing stories. He is profoundly loved and deeply missed.
Special friends and family members including the Strnad family, Hirst family, Needham family, Nelson family, O'Konek family, Reznick family, Peterson family, Christenson family, Armstrong family, Bell family, Krumm family, the Kalamakis family and numerous past students helped make the last several months very special for Mark and his family. Paul, BJ, Crystal, Irene and Billie from Assured Hospice were wonderful with their devotion and tender care of Mark. We would like to express our appreciation for the care and concern shown us by Carver Family Funeral Home. Everyone's love, support and help is deeply appreciated.
Bert Yosting his father, Joan Carter Yosting his mother, and brother Steven Yosting preceded him in death.
Survivors include his beloved wife of nearly 41 years, Katherine Yosting of Moses Lake, WA; his son and daughter-in-law Matthew and Veronica Yosting, grandchildren Isabella, Zachary and baby Yosting arriving in October 2014, of Gloucester, VA; two sisters Sandra Daskam Mayville and Tracy Daskam Conway and her husband Brian; stepmother Ruth Yosting of Anacortes, WA, brother-in-law Dan Krumm and his wife Jeannette of Manson, WA, numerous nieces, nephews and many, many dear friends.
