WARDEN - An Othello woman is facing an assault charge after allegedly cutting a man with a box cutter after the man allegedly hit her with a belt following a verbal altercation Monday afternoon at a Warden home.

Jaspe Janna Rodriguez, 28, was booked into Grant County Jail on suspicion of second-degree assault, domestic violence, according to Warden Police Chief Rick Martin.

Warden Police responded to the 900 block of South Washington Avenue for a report of a domestic disturbance about 3:30 p.m. Monday, Martin said.

Rodriguez and Sergio Diaz, Jr., 30, of Warden, were involved in a verbal altercation before Diaz allegedly struck Rodriguez with a cotton web belt, according to Martin. Rodriguez allegedly retaliated by slashing Diaz with a box cutter she happened to be holding. Diaz reportedly received "significant" lacerations to his hand and wrist and was transported to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake, Martin said.

Rodriguez suffered minor injuries, including several red marks, in the incident but did not require hospitalization. Martin said the marks supported the accusation she was assaulted.

Martin said Tuesday assault charges will also likely be filed against Diaz for allegedly hitting Rodriguez with the belt.

Rodriguez also had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court on obstruction charges, according to jail records.
