Moses Lake loses two, drops in standings

EAST WENATCHEE - In a tightly contested race for the Columbia Basin Big 9 crown, Moses Lake boys basketball (7-4, 10-6) took a step backward.
The Chiefs lost two road games to Wenatchee and Eastmont, dropping the team from first to fourth in the Big 9 standings.
"I thought we came in a little tired and we just have to finish the game," head coach John Hohman said.
Friday, Moses Lake fell to the Panthers 44-52 and, after leading at halftime, dropped Saturday's game to Eastmont, 58-67.
The free throw disparity was the story of the weekend as Moses Lake struggled from the line, shooting 6/12, while Wenatchee made 20/33.
It continued against Eastmont as the Wildcats shot 28/35 from the free throw line, while Moses Lake only shot 10/18.
Sophomore center Cesar Sandoval scored a team-high 26 points against the Panthers and added 12 against Eastmont.
Junior forward Mitch Hohman added 12 points and five rebounds against the Wildcats, while sophomore guard Ricardo Gonzalez had 15.
Moses Lake will have to regroup quickly as the team hosts first place Davis on Feb. 7.
Moses Lake girls continue to roll
Moses Lake girls basketball (10-2, 14-3) has put together an impressive 10 game winning streak.
The team scored its ninth and tenth wins in a row after narrowly defeating Wenatchee, 50-43, and blowing out Eastmont, 66-38.
The team returns home for the rubber match against Davis Feb. 7
