MOSES LAKE - The Grant County Sheriff's Office and Moses Lake Police Department teamed up with local businesses to host the third annual Shop with a Cop last week in Moses Lake.

Nine children and one family were chosen this year through suggestions by the Moses Lake School District, Ephrata School District and Serve Moses Lake.

Through the generosity of WalMart, Weinstein Beverage and Papa John's Pizza, each child was served a pizza dinner, then given a $300 gift card from WalMart.

The children were then taken on a shopping spree assisted by Grant County Sheriff's deputies and Moses Lake Police officers.

One area family received an $800 Christmas gift card for gifts, food and household items. And at the end of the evening, officers also found a random family shopping in the store and helped them by buying everything in their cart.

"This is one of the most important community events we help host, and it's made possible through donations from community businesses," Sheriff Tom Jones said. "This event helps highlight the spirit of giving during the holidays and also demonstrates what cops do best: help people in need."
