SOAP LAKE - Deputies from the Grant County Sheriff's Office arrested Josephine Bitterman, 77, of Soap Lake, for allegedly shooting her husband.

The arrest happened after deputies interviewed her in connection to a shooting that took place earlier in the day.

Bitterman allegedly shot her husband Don Bitterman, 78, also of Soap Lake, in the stomach with a pistol at 2 p.m. at a home in the 18000 block of Division .5 Road Northeast, south of Soap Lake.

Don Bitterman was airlifted via MedStar helicopter to Confluence Health/Central Washington Hospital, in Wenatchee, and is reportedly in stable condition.

Sheriff's office spokesmen Kyle Foreman said the shooting was allegedly an end result of an argument between the two.

There were no other people reported to have been inside the house at the time of the shooting.

Josephine Bitterman was taken to the Grant County Jail under suspicion of first-degree assault.

Her court appearance is expected sometime next week.
