MOSES LAKE - Members of Lisa Barth's 4-H club have come up with a way to give back to their leader in her time of need.

The Champion 4-H Club is hosting a benefit dinner and auction next month to raise funds to help cover medical expenses for Barth. Barth was rushed to the hospital in August with internal bleeding and received emergency surgery.

The Quincy woman was airlifted to Harbor View Medical Center in Seattle, where she remained for about two months undergoing a number of additional surgeries.

Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Debbie Doran-Martinez said while Barth is out of the hospital and continuing to recover, she is now faced with having to start paying for the cost of treatment.

"She's out now, but now bills are coming in and she has insurance but it's a big deductible and even when it's all said and done, insurance only pays 80 percent," she said. "We're just trying to raise some money to help with the rest."

The chamber is helping the 4-H club by facilitating the financial side of the fundraiser, said Doran-Martinez, but it's the 4-H kids who came up with the idea for the dinner. And she said it's not surprising that they wanted to do something for Barth.

"She has been involved in 4-H forever, and this particular club she formed about 10 years ago," said Doran-Martinez.

Over the course of all those years, Barth has helped numerous kids with their 4-H projects, she said.

"Almost all of them started when they were eight or nine and have gone through with her (Barth), with several graduating already."

"For the Love of Lisa," benefit dinner takes place Jan. 10 at the Columbia Basin Elks Lodge, located at 814 N. Stratford Rd. in Moses Lake.

The night features a silent and live auction, dinner and entertainment, said Doran-Martinez.

The silent auction takes place from 5 to 7 p.m., with dinner starting at 6:30 p.m.

Dinner includes smoked tri-tip, potatoes, vegetables, salad and dessert.

Entertainment by the Rock'n B Cloggers begins at 7:15 p.m. The live auction begins at 7:30 p.m.

Doran-Martinez said they are still looking for auction items.

Tickets are $40 each or $75 for two. Tickets are available at the chamber office in Moses Lake.

Doran-Martinez said people can find out more about the event, or even purchase tickets by contacting her at 509-750-4232.
