Identity theft suspect arrested
MOSES LAKE – A 25 year old Moses Lake woman was placed behind bars on Dec. 11 after deputies arrested her on charges stemming from a recent identity theft.
Nakita M. Clark was arrested during a morning raid at her home at 7503 Rainier Road Northeast. The raid was the result of an investigation of a fraudulently obtained Kohl’s credit card acquired in the name of another Moses Lake woman.
According to Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones, identity thieves live near their victims more often than one might think. They operate similarly to check thieves and forgers.
The identity theft victim in this case notified sheriff's deputies on Dec. 8 based on a credit alert she had received. Kohl’s fraud investigators provided deputies with the list and values of purchased items and the Rainier Road address where the items were shipped.
From inside Clark’s home, deputies recovered nearly 50 pieces of Kohl’s merchandise totaling $1,775, including clothing, shoes, appliances, beauty and haircare products, electronics, home furnishings, and jewelry.
Clark was taken to the Grant County Jail on suspicion of possession of stolen property, theft, and fraud.
“I’m very happy deputies were able to arrest this suspect,” Jones said. “All too often, identity theft investigations don’t result in an arrest because of the complexity of Internet fraud. Great job by deputies.”
