EPHRATA - A Quincy man was sentenced to about four years in prison for stealing candy, deodorant and other toiletries from the Moses Lake Walmart.

Grant County Judge John Antosz sentenced Willie Arrendondo, 53, to three years and eight months in prison this week, according to court documents.

Arrendondo was previously convicted of burglary, theft, malicious mischief, possession of a controlled substance and money laundering, according to court documents.

In May, security personnel noticed Arrendondo and a woman attempting to leave the Wal-Mart with unpaid items in their shopping cart. The loss prevention officer told police they first noticed the couple as Arrendondo walked the aisles eating candy he had not paid for, according to the police report.

Arrendondo told arresting officers he was barred from coming into any Wal-Mart because he had been caught stealing form the stores in the past, according to police.

The woman he was with, Shara Bates, was arrested and charged with theft, according to court documents.

The couple told police they were living together, trying to kick their methamphetamine habit and did not have any money to buy the items, according to police.
