Darwin's curse

| December 19, 2014 3:00 AM

I believe that people are genetically programmed to quickly judge and discriminate based on a person's clothes, perceived race or ethnicity, and speech. Over the past perhaps 50,000 years, only those people who made quick judgements were the most likely to survive, and procreate. "Civilization" as we know it today did not exist. Indeed, it might be questioned as to whether mankind is civil today.

Politicians, "civil rights leaders," and the major media all use their propaganda to "sell" their thinking to people. Divide people according to race, nationality, wealth, etc. such that they can be exploited.

The first step toward true elimination of "racial" problems would be to discredit and eliminate those groups and agencies that promote the continued division. Eliminate all questions as to ethnic or racial identity on government forms. Eliminate references to a person's race or ethnicity in the media. Instead, identify people by their behavior. Perhaps the NAACP should become the National Association for the Advancement of All People. If they don't make such a change, are they racist?

Eliminate the teaching of multiple languages such that people can understand a common language. One that includes words that are ethnic specific because there is relationship between language and a person's cultural heritage. We should be taught to appreciate those cultural heritages that are good.

People should be taught from birth to appreciate and respect all people, and judge others by the way they act. Treat every person as if you want them as a friend, and learn to trust those who treat you as a friend. Darwin's curse is that we are all too able, and quick, to judge others before we see how they act toward us. Yet, that survival mechanism is still needed in today's world.
