Page program open to Basin students

| December 16, 2014 5:00 AM

OLYMPIA - Thirteenth District Sen.-elect Rep. Judy Warnick and Rep. Matt Manweller encourage students ages 14-16 to apply for the Legislative Page Program.

The legislative page program has been around since 1891, and welcomed students from across Washington to Olympia each year during the session.

Selected students will spend a week at page school during the 2015 Legislative session, learn how state government works and assist state legislators on the House floor.

At the end of their week in Olympia, every student will create and propose a mock bill to be analyzed and considered by the other students in the page program.

Every participant will receive $35 a day while serving in the page program, which in turn helps with the travel to Olympia and staying with a host family provided by the Legislature.

All applicants must be between ages 14-16 and have written permission from their parents and the school they attend.

Students interested in the page program can print an application at www.leg.wa.gov/House/Pages/HousePageProgram.aspx or www.leg.wa.gov/Senate/Administration/PageProgram/Pages/default.aspx. The Senate page application is found on the left side of the web page.

Once the application is complete it can be mailed to either Warnick or Manweller's offices.
