BBCC women host Mt. Hood in only home game of Dec.

MOSES LAKE - Big Bend women's basketball players might forget what home feels like for the first month of the season.

After opening its schedule at the Bulldog Classic Tourney this past weekend, the Vikings will play their lone home game of December Saturday, 2 p.m., against Mt. Hood.

Big Bend won't be returning to the friendly confines of DeVries Activity Center until the BBCC Alumni game Jan. 3.

Head coach Preston Wilks hopes to put on a nice show for the fans and notch the Vikings' first win of the season.

"That's exactly what we're hoping to do, is have a good kind of coming-out party and be able to show the fans what our team's got this year," he said. "Our opening tournament at times we showed what we can do this year and hopefully will take those moment and piece it into a complete game for our first home game."

Big Bend went 0-3 at the Bulldog Classic, but did play NWAC Tournament runner-up Umpqua and Washington Athletic Club, a team made up of past Division I, II and III players.

The Vikings were also playing their first set of games, while every other team in Bellevue had played at least three.

"It was a big difference because we just don't have everything in yet as far as what we want to do with our systems both offensively and defensively," Wilks said. "We'll catch up, we will. We're definitely not in any kind of a panic mode."

Big Bend will be without sophomore forward Brooke Bowers until at least Christmas. She was diagnosed with a hip sprain last weekend.

"Hopefully the pain will be at a small minimal level where she'll get over it and not be nagged by it all season long," Wilks said.

Big Bend men's basketball will also be home for the first time since its season-opening game Nov. 22 against the Columbia Basin All-Stars.

BBCC men will play back-to-back games against Peninsula Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at noon.
