ML girls overcome foul trouble, injuries against Southridge

KENNEWICK - Without starter Avery Clark, who was out sick, and guard McKenna Walker in foul trouble for much of the first half, Moses Lake girls basketball methodically stretched its lead over Southridge.
The Chiefs turned an 8-point halftime lead into an 18-point margin of victory, scoring their first win of the season 73-55.
Jessie Loera led all scorers with 25 points and also swiped 6 steals in the first quarter.
"73 points is no slouch, but offensively we could have been better and then defensively I don't like the fact that we're giving up 55 points, but we had some foul trouble issues and some other things like that that helped out giving up the 55 points," head coach Matt Strophy said.
Jamie Loera, who has been nursing a knee injury, played no more than 10 minutes so some JV players jumped up to varsity and contributed to the win.
Strophy described Alysha Overland as a "rebounding machine," saying the senior guard finished with over 10 boards.
Walker rallied from her foul trouble to score in double figures.
Moses Lake plays its first home game Friday at 5:45 p.m. against Kennewick
