Opening on county's Civil Service Commission

EPHRATA - The Grant County Board of Commissioners is still searching for at least one county resident to serve on the Civil Service Commission.

The Civil Service Commission assists with the hiring of civil service positions such as law enforcement, said Jill Hammond with the county commissioners' office.

The six-year term includes making rules for operation of the civil service system consistent with state law and giving practical tests to determine a potential county employee's capability to do the job, she said. The commission also hears appeals and complaints and prepares eligibility tests for civil service positions.

The commission meets quarterly, if needed, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the county courthouse in Ephrata.

The position is not paid but commissioners are reimbursed for time and travel, according to the commissioners' office.

There are currently three members on the five person board and at least two of them have a background in law enforcement, Hammond said.
