Jean Emma Renville

| December 3, 2014 5:00 AM

Jean Emma Renville passed away on Nov 24, 2014 in Mount Vernon. She was born in Klamath Falls, Ore., on Oct 2, 1919 to Grace and William Platt, the fifth of eight children.

Jean grew up in Ellensburg and graduated from high school in 1937. She worked as a bookkeeper for K E Laundry until she married John Renville in November 1941. They both worked at the Tacoma shipyards during WWII. In 1957 they purchased Bee's Drive-In Cafe in Moses Lake, where Jean made many cream pies early every morning. Later they purchased a partnership in The Turf Cafe where Jean was a cashier and bookkeeper for a few years before retiring. In 1993 John died, and in 2009 Jean moved to Mount Vernon to be closer to her daughter.

Jean enjoyed homemaking and gardening all her life, and spent many hours doing embroidery, crochet, knitting and sewing. In her younger years, she bowled in a league, golfed, and went fishing and hunting with John. She loved animals, especially dogs, John's quarter-horses, banty chickens, and their pygmy goat Llewelda. She was an active member of the Moses Lake Christian Church.

Jean was a generous, caring, and considerate person, who helped, cheered and encouraged all her family and friends. Alzheimer's disease made her last few years difficult, but her independent and sometimes feisty spirit allowed her true character to shine through almost to the very end. She leaves a hole in our hearts.

Jean is survived by her only child, Gloria McKim of Sedro Woolley as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and sisters-in-law. All her siblings preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be held at the Moses Lake Christian Church at 200 E Yonezawa Blvd on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014 at 10 a.m.

Donations in Jean's memory may be made to the Humane Society or the Alzheimer's Foundation.
