Vehicle prowlers lead police on chase

MOSES LAKE - Two vehicle prowlers lead Moses Lake officers on a high-speed chase on their motorcycle Wednesday.

At about 1:20 a.m. on Wednesday MLPD officers were on South Lakeland Drive following a loud sound from a possible motorcycle, according to the Moses Lake Police Department.

While attempting to find the motorcycle, an officer reportedly witnessed Andrew Gilbert, 33, of Ephrata, and Cory Harless, 26, prowling a vehicle in the neighborhood.

Gilbert, the driver, and Harless, the passenger, allegedly got on their motorcycle and drove south on Lakeland Drive.

As they were traveling, Harless threw a motorcycle helmet from the back of the motorcycle, which struck a curb and ricocheted back onto the road in front of the officer in pursuit, according to police reports.

Gilbert and Harless continued on Nelson Road and made their way onto the golf course. Gilbert then attempted to make it back onto Nelson Road and state Route 17.

Gilbert put the motorcycle on its side as the officer in pursuit made it to the entrance of Basin Feed & Supply on East Nelson Road. Gilbert fled the scene, but was later taken into custody near the Moses Lake Christian Academy.

Harless also fled the scene and ran a short distance before getting on the ground when ordered to do so by officers.

Gilbert was arrested and booked on two counts of felony eluding, vehicle prowling and resisting arrest.

Harless was arrested and charged with aiding and abetting.
