MLPD warns drivers to slow down for students
MOSES LAKE - With school starting Wednesday in Moses Lake, the Moses Lake Police Department urges drivers to show care and caution in school zones.
Chief Dave Ruffin highlights that the first week of school can be an exciting time for children, but some may get distracted and not pay close enough attention to drivers.
Ruffin wants motorists to keep in mind the speed limit in a school zone is 20 mph.
Ruffin also wants motorists to remember that school buses will be picking up and dropping off students. Drivers are required to stop in both directions when school bus "stop paddles" are out, or when red lights are flashing.
Violators of these traffic infractions can expect to receive a $394 fine.
Officers will be conducting a traffic emphasis throughout the week, focusing on school zone violations.
Ruffin reminds drivers to be careful and plan extra travel time to get to and from work.
