Many groups make the fair great

| August 22, 2014 6:00 AM

The article on Fairground food booths was very good and well-deserved by the organizations named but it did not go far enough.

The Fraternal Order of Eagles was not mentioned and has been operating a food booth at the Fair for around 50 years. We are a non profit organization that supports many local causes over the year: police and fire departments, search and rescue, Grant Co. Fire District No. 5, Sacred Heart kidney transplant patients, Moses Lake Community Health, Moses Lake School District Birth to 3 Program., Military Care Packages, Our House Wenatchee, Summerwood, forest fire relief, Relay for Life, Animal Outreach, Daze of Camelot, to name a few. And we have our own charities: heart, kidney, Alzheimer's, cancer, youth activities, etc., which operate 100 percent without administrative deductions.

We open our booth on Sunday and stay open until afternoon the following Sunday to serve the exhibitors while they are setting up, being judged and removing their animals and exhibits after the Fair is over. During this time, we serve breakfast at 7 a.m. and afternoon food for a total of eight days. I think we deserve a call.

Editor's note: Thank you to the Eagles for all their efforts. There are many organizations that make the fair great and you are one of them. The Eagles were briefly mentioned in a preview article about the fair in the Aug. 11 edition.
