Modified Wanapum fish ladder, Priest Rapids fish bypass appear successful
BEVERLY - Grant County PUD officials said this morning they expect juvenile fish to have no problems passing the newly modified Wanapum Dam fish ladder and the newly constructed Priest Rapids fish bypass.
Officials said they expect 99 percent survival rate of juvenile
fish traveling downstream on the Columbia through the new bypass and
ladder.
The Priest Rapids fish bypass was completed earlier this month and
reduces the amount of water flow required for allow fish to pass from
110,000 cubic feet per second to 27,000 cfs. The bypass cost $28 million, but will pay for itself within seven years with increased potential for power generation.
