Big Bend splits with Spokane
Big Bend BBCC Vikings Baseball
SPOKANE - Big Bend baseball (8-12, 17-14) was unable to make up ground in the NWAACC East after splitting a doubleheader on the road against Spokane.
The Vikings dropped the first game against CCS, 6-4, but were able to rally to take the nightcap, 6-0.
Big Bend currently sits in sixth place in the East region, trailing Yakima Valley by five games for the final playoff berth.
With only eight games remaining, Big Bend will have to play a remarkable stretch of baseball and hope some teams ahead of them falter for any chance at the postseason.
Game one saw Big Bend fall behind and trail throughout until two runs in the top of the eighth knotted the score at 4-4.
However, Spokane was able to answer with two more runs in the bottom of the eighth to hold on for the 6-4 win.
Jacob Yamane was 2 for 3 with three RBIs in the loss.
In the nightcap, Big Bend pitcher Reign Letkeman quieted the Spokane bats en route to a complete game shutout. Letkeman struck out four and has an ERA of 1.81 on the year.
Dylan Signorelli was 1 for 2 with two RBIs while Brett Fredericksen was 1 for 5 with two RBIs as well.
The Vikings will try to make a playoff push when the team hosts Walla Walla Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
BBCC softball snaps losing streak
Big Bend (2-20, 4-24) was able to snap a 13-game losing streak recently after splitting a doubleheader against Blue Mountain.
After dropping two games against Treasure Valley, 9-1 and 8-0, the Vikings were able to take the front end of a twin bill against the Timberwolves, 11-7.
Kelsey Cearly and Kim Martin both homered.
Big Bend dropped the nightcap, 10-9.
The Vikings end their season with six more road games, with the next two coming May 2 against Columbia Basin.
