Youth little league begins with parade Saturday
MOSES LAKE - Hundreds of Moses Lake youth baseball and softball players will celebrate their league's opening day this Saturday.
There are about 600 players, age six through 12, participating in youth baseball and softball this year, said Theresa Harrington, of the Moses Lake Youth Baseball Association. They officially kick off their season this weekend, she said.
The festivities begin Saturday morning with the annual Youth Day Parade through downtown Moses Lake. The parade starts at 10 a.m. on Dogwood Street. Harrington said teams will ride through the parade route on decorated trucks and other vehicles.
Players, coaches and team sponsors all usually participate in the parade, she said.
They'll then head to Larson Playfield for the opening ceremony at 11 a.m. The Moses Lake Parks and Recreation Department will honor Jody Haddican as the Grant Marshal during the ceremony.
Harrington said the kids will spend the rest of the day playing baseball.
"There's never Saturday games during the season, so the one special day where there are Saturday games is opening day," she said.
Games will take place at Larson as well as other fields around town said Harrington.
