Dash for eggs in Moses Lake

MOSES LAKE - It took less than two minutes for hundreds of children to snag nearly 4,000 eggs Saturday in a mad dash at the Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt in Moses Lake.

Volunteers started setting up and laying out eggs about two hours before the midday hunt at McCosh Park, an annual event put on by the Moses Lake Lions Club since at least 1987, Lion's Club member Carol Conley said.

Families were already circling around the lined-off areas about 30 minutes before the event, she said.

Miss Moses Lake Haylee Dennis was also on hand taking pictures with participants and giving children candy before the hunt.

The nearly 4,000 eggs were gone in about a minute and a half.

The event was free to children up to 10-years-old this year.

This was the first year the Lions Club used all plastic eggs for the hunt, filled with candy and tickets for children to receive prizes including gift baskets, small toys and gift certificates from LakeBowl and Blue Palm Yogurt, Sue Hodges said, who was running the prize table.

Many of the participants stuck around after the hunt to take photos with the Easter Bunny.

Dozens of volunteers, including members of the Moses Lake Robotics Team, Boy Scout Troop 67 and Cub Scout Pack 67, help set up the event Saturday morning.
