Reader concerned about the country's future

| April 11, 2014 6:00 AM

Election time will soon be upon us. With the coming retirement of Congressman Doc Hastings, many candidates have already announced their plans to run for public office. The majority of us in Grant County are conservative. We believe in the Constitution and that those who founded this country knew what they were doing. We become very frustrated that Seattle seems to dominate the outcome of our elections. There are still some things that we can do about it. In 2012 there were over 60,000 people in Grant County over the age of 18, but there were only 36,499 registered voters in the county. In the 2012 election only 76.98 percent of the register voters in Grant County voted. We have had a number of close elections in the last few years, and the people of Grant County and eastern Washington could have changed the outcome of many of those races.

Despite what some of the national media might indicate, our country is in real trouble. Our economy is in grave danger, and our constitutional rights are in danger of disappearing. We could lose the world's greatest health care system to an inferior government controlled system. We can not remain complacent, the future of the country is the responsibility of every citizen.

On April 15 from 3-7 p.m., there will be a rally at Twin Towers Memorial Park, which is next to the Moses Lake Library. A number of the candidates will be speaking. This would be an excellent opportunity to meet them and learn where they stand on the issues. The rally is sponsored by United To Win 2014, a coalition of Grant County political organizations.
