Reader opposes Frankenfoods

| September 27, 2013 6:00 AM

I just learned of Initiative 522 from a mailing urging me to vote "no." After reading it, I've decided to vote "yes."

Do I have a right to know if the food sold to me is genetically pure? Why don't sellers of GMO foods voluntarily label their products as such? Does it really cost that much to add two words to a label? No one is boasting that their product is genetically modified. On the contrary, they are ashamed, and fighting to hide it. They know most people don't want to eat GMOs. Monsanto created GMOs that Roundup can't kill. So now people are eating Frankenstein DNA plus Roundup. If GMOs cause adverse reactions, who is responsible? Shouldn't someone take responsibility when people are harmed?

The USDA and FDA are useless. I have no confidence that they are concerned with anyone's health. Our government is corrupt. The corruption needs to be exposed and rooted out. Washington voters have an opportunity to hold up the light of truth. We need to remain a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, and not allow ourselves to become a government of and by bureaucrats against the people. The politicians refuse to represent us. Take the initiative to set a higher standard. Vote "yes" for I-522.
