Our online poll: Did you take a vacation this summer?
Many Americans skip taking a vacation, and according to an article by Marketplace, this is not a healthy or profitable choice.
The article states many Americans skip vacation partly out of fear of losing their job or the respect of their bosses if they leave the workplace for recreation.
But vacations matter, and a emotional and financial cost has been associated with not taking vacation, including higher rates of depression, heart disease and risk of death by heart attack.
So, although your paycheck might be bigger that one week a summer you decide not to take vacation, it is likely your healthcare costs will more than make up for that extra income in the long run.
According to a study by the Middle Tennessee State University, American businesses spend $344 billion on stress-related health care.
