Lloyd Daniel Whitney

Lloyd Daniel Whitney, 88, a longtime Warden resident passed away Sunday, September 22, 2013 at home surrounded by family. Viewing will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 28th at the Warden Community Church. Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 28th at the church. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Lloyd was born on May 19, 1925 in Grandview, Washington to Raymond Leander and Myrtle Mae (Nelson) Whitney. He was raised and educated in Grandview. In 1943, Lloyd enlisted in the US Navy and served during World War II attaining the rank of Boatswain's Mate while serving on the destroyer USS Pritchitt. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Lloyd was married to Dorothy Ruth Zilliox on April 8, 1948 in Pasco, Washington. They moved to Warden in 1956 where he started his own construction company, Lloyd Whitney Construction, retiring at the age of 65.

Lloyd and Dorothy enjoyed traveling and spending many winters in Arizona. They especially enjoyed finding places to camp that were off the beaten track. He loved spending time with family and friends.

He was a volunteer firefighter with Grant County 4 for 34 years and of that, he was chief for 22 years. Lloyd also served on the Fair Board, was Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 1961 and a Charter Member of the Lion's Club.

Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy R. Whitney; 4 sons, Dennis (Kathy) Whitney, David (Barbara) Whitney, John Whitney, Martin (Kristi) Whitney; 14 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; 4 brothers, Marvin, Philip, Fred and Ivan; one sister, Lillian "Jean" Omberg. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Leslie Whitney, 2 brothers, Charles and Clyde and one sister Ruth Berg.
