SOAP LAKE — Soap Lake artist Brent Blake’s memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Monday at the Moses Lake Latter-day Saints Stake Center at 1515 S. Division Ave. The public is welcome.

Blake was dubbed a “wonderful soul,” “great guy,” and “visionary,” by friends on local business and organization’s Facebook pages. He passed away Tuesday of leukemia at Confluence Health, formerly Central Washington Hospital, in Wenatchee.

Flowers are being left outside the SLAM (Soap Lake Arts Museum) building on Daisy Street in Soap Lake, where Blake showed his and other artists’ work, had parties and music jams, and lived, according to the Soap Lake for Locals Facebook page.

Blake was also famously the mind behind the giant lava lamp, still in limbo of production in Soap Lake. He was a champion for the arts and music in the Columbia Basin. He grew up in Moses Lake, moved away to Seattle and eventually returned to Soap Lake.
