ROYAL CITY - The Burke Museum, which is located on the University of Washington campus, is coming to Red Rock Elementary with many of the historical artifacts in its archives to share with Royal Slope students.

According to Federal Programs Director Carolyn Bunch, three educators from the museum will be arriving in the Burkemobile on Monday, Sept. 30. They will work with the students through Oct. 3.

On the final day, Oct. 3, parents and families will be invited to view all the artifact collections from the Burke Museum in the Red Rock gym.

Bunch said teachers at Red Rock met as grade levels and decided on which boxes of artifacts best fit into their curriculum. For example, the kindergarten teachers chose artifact boxes on insects, dinosaurs and sea mammals.

The kindergartners will be able to see and touch a real whale vertebra, dinosaur fossils, and view many varieties of exotic insects.

Other grades have chosen artifact boxes on the Plateau Indians and the Northwest Indians. The students will compare and contrast these Native American cultures.

Some grades will be studying a large and varied rock collection, while others will be studying about bats.
