Othello falls to Prosser

The Huskies ended last season with a playoff loss to rival Prosser 15-14. Othello led the game 14-0 at halftime when an injury to their starting quarterback late in the first half halted their success and allowed Prosser to take control of the contest. They had revenge on their mind this past Friday as the two teams met again for the first time since the heartbreaking loss last year. After shutting out Wapato 54-0 last week the offense showed it was explosive enough to contend with a team like Prosser, but it would take a team effort and strong play on both sides of the ball to move their record to 3-0. After another strong first half, Prosser got the better of the Huskies in the second half and pulled away to win 27-16.

The Huskies came out ready to play and team captain Tanner Wagner was running the ball like a man on a mission and Josiah Peterson followed Wagner's lead to give the Huskies a strong one-two punch on the ground. Peterson scored the games first touchdown and gave Othello a 7-0 lead going into the break.

Unfortunatley for the Huskies, much like last years season ending game, the Mustangs had a big second half and changed the flow of the game, as Prosser jumped out to a 21-10 lead in the fourth quarter behind the running of Isaiah Sanders. Othello would rally and make a final effort to beat their bitter rival as Peterson got into the end-zone for the second time when he caught a pass from quarterback Alix Garcia to make the score 21-16 late in the fourth. Othello would get the ball back and was driving down the field, attempting to score what would be the go-ahead touchdown, but Garcia threw a pass that was intercepted by the Mustangs sophomore David Ledesma and returned 36 yards for a touchdown. The pick proved to be the game winner as the Mustangs put the game out of reach and won by a final score of 27-16.

Tanner Wagner had a strong performance in the loss, carrying the ball 23 times for 123 yards. The rivalry game did not disappoint with drama filled plays right up until late in the fourth quarter when Prosser finally pulled away. Last year Othello won the regular season meeting before falling to the Mustangs in the playoffs and both teams still have their sights set on post-season play this year. Next up for Othello is West Valley on the road as they look to get back in track with a win and improve to 3-1 on the season.
