Moses Lake girls soccer got off to a strong start this past Thursday as they traveled to Sunnyside to open the season. Alysha Overland didn't waste much time getting the team's season started off on the right foot, scoring just 25 seconds into the contest and adding her second goal just under five minutes into the action. McKenna Walker assisted Overland's second goal before adding a score of her own at the 18 minute mark. Walker would score again in the second half for her second goal of the young season. Team captain Caylah Lunning scored her first goal at the 54 minute mark, and Stephanie Overland added two scores of her own in route to a big win for the Chiefs to open the season as they went on to defeat Sunnyside 8-2.

Just a couple days later Moses Lake went on the road again to take on University, in what would prove to be the first test of the season for the Chiefs. Despite two goals and an assist from junior Alysha Overland, the game was tied with both teams each having three goals as regulation came to a close. The Chiefs would go on to lose the game in on a PK shootout goal, moving their record to 1-1 on the year.

The Chiefs looked to build on the devastating loss in their home opener Tuesday against Eastmont by shooting early and often. Led by senior McKenna Walker the Cheifs came out firing with Walker and Alysha Overland taking close shots on goal within the first few minutes of play. Although their first handful of shots closely missed, it wouldn't take long for Moses Lake to find the back of the goal net. Caylah Lunning scored the first goal of the game at the 29 minute mark with a nice crossover dribble creating an open look. The scoring would keep coming from the Chiefs as Alycia Overland added another goal at the 24 minute mark followed by McKenna Walker's score just minutes later.

Caylah Lunning would add her second goal of the night just before the 15 minute mark in the first half, as Moses Lake began to pull away from Eastmont. The second half featured more of the same as the Chiefs continued to dominate the offense on the field as Overland added two more goals giving her a total of four for the game. Caylah Lunning also tacked on another goal and completed the hat trick with a three goal game. With a commanding lead after the break Moses Lake spread around playing time, allowing underclassmen and reserves to get significant playing time. The defense also held strong only allowing one goal to Eastmont, making the final score 8-1. With dominant performances against Sunnyside and Eastmont the Chiefs have their sights set on a return trip to the state playoffs and another league championship.

Moses Lake will now turn their attention to their next game, as they prepare to take on Shadle Park at home this Thursday. They will enter the contest with a record of 2-1 and team leaders Overland, Walker and Lunning all on hot streaks.

Overland already has 10 goals on the season, while Walker has three and Lunning has four, displaying just how strong the Chief's offensive attack can be. Moses Lake will rely on their trio of scorers and tough defense as they look for their third win of the season against Shadle Park.
