A Sip of the Slope Sept. 21 at Royal Community Center
This chocolate fountain was a center of conversation and delight last year. It was prepared and presented by Georgene Ricker. This year's chocolate needs will be taken care of by Karen Lasen who, wine fest chairman Linda Murphy says, makes “incredible confectionaries.”
ROYAL CITY – SHOC (Strengthening the Heart of the Community) is putting the final details in place for the second annual “A Sip of the Slope” wine fest on Sept. 21 at the Royal
Community Center.
“We are pleased with the wonderful variety of wine, food and entertainment that we are going to be able to offer this year,” Chairman Linda Murphy said.
The Royal Community Center is located at 13702 Dodson Road South, Royal City. The tasting will begin at 4 p.m. and continue through 7 p.m.
But guests are welcome to stay and visit beyond that time. One must be at least 21 years of age to attend.
Tickets for A Sip of the Slope are $25 per person. They are on sale at Royal City Harvest Foods and can also be purchased on the day of the event at the Community Center.
If you play golf, the Royal Golf Course is offering a special that day for those holding Sip of the Slope tickets. Show your “Sip” ticket and play 18 holes for $17.
The Royal Slope and surrounding area produce a highly diverse variety of agricultural commodities. Viniculture, though ancient in its origin, is a relative newcomer to the area.
“Travelers are familiar with our lush fields of grains, potatoes, beans and alfalfa, and our beautiful orchards,” Murphy said. “The grace and dignity of a groomed vineyard has added a new dimension to our landscape. The wines produced from the juice of those grapes win awards and consequently gain respect for our growing region.”
Each of the participating wineries will have a selection of bottled wines that guests may purchase. SHOC will accept credit cards. All profits will be used to fund further growth and development of the Royal Slope.
New contributors to A Sip of the Slope are Neppel Cellars, Tonnemaker Hill Farm, Verhey Peaches, Pies by Ronna, and chocolates from Karen Lasen. Cheese Louise from Richland will offer a wide selection of both domestic and imported cheese to pair and taste with the wines. Alcohol free beverages will be available.
Returning from last year will be Gård Vintners, Frenchman Hills Winery, Foxy Roxy Wine Company, Camas Cove Cellars, and Gingko Forest Winery.
Guests will be treated to a wide variety of “delectable edibles” from several of our local businesses. Royal City Harvest Foods Deli, Deli-sh, La Cabaña, Hugo Ledezma’s Tacos, and Mack’s Mocha will be back.
Also returning to entertain are Slag Callahan and Gavin Rose with their relaxing guitar selections.
