Longtime Moses Lake resident James Hirz, 82, passed away September 14, 2013. Jim was born on October 11, 1930 in Rapid City, South Dakota to Harry and Margaret Hirz. One of eleven children, there was always work to be done and fun to be had.

Jim served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He then moved to Willows, California, where he met and married Charlotte Cheney. In December 1959 their son Justin was born, followed by daughter Sabra in 1961 and son Kerwin in 1963. Jim packed up his young family and moved them to a Block 40 farm in 1965, where he finished raising his children and shared in raising his grandchildren.

Jim was a kind, fair and patient brother, husband, father and grandfather. Known as a quiet man of wisdom, he was respected by all and adored by his family. He was a true farmer who was most happy and comfortable in his tractor or with his cattle. He had solid values and appreciated everything.

Jim is survived by: sisters Estella, Helen, Doris, Carrie, Ada, Elsa, Nancy, brothers Ned, Ralph; son Kerwin, daughter-in-law Anna, grandson Kai, granddaughter Kayla; daughter Sabra, grandson Christopher, granddaughter Charnnee'; and current wife Marlene.
