RHS helps individuals

| September 15, 2013 6:00 AM

ROYAL CITY - Royal High School Principal Matt Ellis has announced the school will implement a new program designed for the learning needs of the individual student.

The program is called STAT (Student & Teacher Additional Time). The purpose of STAT is to create time within the school day for every student to receive the individual attention he or she needs.

Thirty minutes will be allotted every day for students to attend enrichment seminars or intervention sessions, Ellis said. The selection process of enrichment or intervention will be based upon the student's progress in his or her classes.

"Faculty members believe STAT will increase the number of students meeting state learning standards and create enhanced learning opportunities for those students already doing well," Ellis said.

"As one teacher stated: 'STAT does not just mean remediation for the struggling student. It also means answering the needs of the gifted,'" Ellis added.
