Let the games begin

| September 13, 2013 6:00 AM

Fall sports are in full swing in the Columbia Basin. From Othello to Almira/Coulee-Hartline, student athletes are practicing football, volleyball, soccer, cross country and swimming, and preparing for competition. Last Friday kicked off many of the area's high school football games. They were a great beginning to the fall season. To read more about each football team, visit www.columbiabasinherald.com/sports/ and click on Grid Iron Guide, or pick up a copy of our Sept. 5 edition.

We appreciate the effort put forth by student athletes, coaches, referees, parents and school staff. Behind the scenes, pulling together people and facilities for games and practices takes organization and skill.

On the front lines, student athletes work hard in their respective sports and in class to keep their grades up. The kids' source of support, usually their parents, contribute their time and money for sports' camps, the right gear and clothing to take part. Once the games begin, many parents are on the road with their kids, showing their support by attending both home and away games.

As a reflection of our community, we take pride in covering youth sports in the Columbia Basin. But it is difficult, if not impossible to attend all games in our large coverage area, usually scheduled at the same time. In these cases, you are more than welcome to submit photos showing game time action or fans having fun by emailing sports@columbiabasinherald.com, or by posting them to our Facebook page (please be sure to have your friends tag the photos). We will provide photo credit to the photographer.

Thank you for allowing us into your lives. See you at the game!
