Gary Lee Dorris
Gary Lee Dorris, 58, of Soap Lake, WA died in his home with his dear wife Joyce at his side, after a valiant, hard fought battle with cancer on Saturday, August 31, 2013. Gary was born October 24, 1954 in Seattle, WA to Jerry Gene Dorris and Marilyn (Hefner) Groshong-Kopp.
Gary grew up in Woodinville and in the Ballard area of Seattle. Gary served in the U.S. Army as a Power Generation Operator from 1972-1975. Gary met the love of his life, Joyce Reed in 1977, and they were married in Everett, WA on December 15, 1979. Gary loved working on "Hot Rods", NASCAR racing along with his dear wife Joyce. He was fondly given the nickname "Tranny Gary" for his talent in diagnosing and repairing just about anything mechanical! He enjoyed four-wheeling, boating, fishing and motor home trips with Joyce. He especially enjoyed spending time with his two grandsons and one granddaughter. Gary was a member of the American Legion Post 209.
He is survived by his beloved wife and friend Joyce, of Soap Lake, WA, one son, granddaughter Danyel and grandsons Jason and Joseph, all of Everett, WA; twin sisters Berenice and Ava Dorris, brothers and sisters Darrell, Rich, Linda, Steve and Kathy Groshong, father-in-law Guy, brother-in-law Marty, sisters-in-law Brenda and Teresa, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law Darlene and several aunts and uncles.
A Potluck and Celebration of Gary's life with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Gary and Joyce's home, 640 3rd Ave. N.E., Soap Lake, WA. A second Celebration of Gary's life will be held in Snohomish county at a later date.
