LAKEVIEW PARK - The Grant County Fire Marshal's Office continued Tuesday to investigate a structure fire that occurred on state Route 28 near Lakeview over the weekend.

According to Fire Marshal Deputy Nathan Poplawski, the fire is being considered suspicious at this time and the cause has yet to be determined.

About 2:40 a.m. Saturday, Grant County Fire District 7 firefighters responded to a structure fire at the former Lakeview Veterans of Foreign Wars building in the 100 block of SR 28 West near Grant Street. The building is located across from the District 7 Lakeview station. Crews from Grant County Fire District 13 and the Ephrata Fire Department also responded as the building was fully engulfed. The building was reportedly being used as a storage unit and considered a complete loss.

Poplawski said the fire is suspicious because there was no electrical service to the building. He added the electrical wire leading to the building did have power to it.

Nobody was reported injured in the fire and no other structures were damaged.

SR 28 was closed during the incident for fire fighting safety and fire vehicles on the road.

The Grant County Sheriff's Office also assisted in the initial investigation.
