MOSES LAKE - Registration is open for a fundraising run to benefit the Big Bend Community College Foundation scholarship fund. People who want to receive a T-shirt for the 2013 Dollar Dash must register by Sept. 20, although registration will continue through race day.

The 5-kilometer run (or walk) is scheduled for Sept. 28, with runners and walkers taking to the streets around BBCC at 9:30 a.m. Registration and packet pickup begins at 7:30 a.m. at the 1800 Building on Bolling Street.

Cost is $25 per person, with additional donations accepted. The money will go to the foundation's general scholarship fund, LeAnne Parton, foundation director, said.

The scholarship program offers up to 25 scholarships for high schools in the college's service district, Parton said, including about 15 schools. The program also includes 20 scholarships for people returning to college, and 20 for students in professional or technical fields. The program was expanded to include one scholarship for a student with learning disabilities, Parton said.

A foundation scholarship is $1,400, "a good third of (a student's) tuition" for the year, Parton said. "A lot of times it's the difference between going to college and not going."

This the third annual Dollar Dash, Parton said. The two previous runs attracted about 50 runners, and organizers have set a goal of 75 for 2013, she said.

Registration forms are available at the BBCC business office, college library, the foundation office in the BBCC University Center, the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce office, and the Moses Lake Parks and Recreation office. Registration also is available online at www.signmeup.com/91433.
