Othello wins opener

| September 10, 2013 6:00 AM

The Huskies started their 2013 campaign the same way they ended last regular season, winning.

Othello, who went undefeated in league last year, has their sights set on repeating this year and going deep into the playoffs.

The number four ranked 2A school in the state wasn't phased by playing on the road as they jumped out to a lead and kept the pressure on Connell the entire way behind strong defensive play that has become a signature for the Huskies.

With strong games from senior team captains Josiah Peterson and Colton Hall the team shut down the Connell Eagles offensive charge, allowing only 10 points.

The Huskies offense was a team effort, getting contributions from multiple players. Senior running back Tanner Wagner ran the ball well on the way to Othello's 28 points.

The eighteen point win improves the Huskies record to 1-0 on the year as they prepare for their home opener next weekend against Wapato, who were shut out by Zillah 63-0 on Friday. Othello looks to continue their winning ways against the Wolves of Wapato in preparation for their rivalry game September 20th at Prosser.
