28 strong turn out for Warrior volleyball

The Warriors will depend mightily on seniors Jennifer Mendoza, Liliana Ramirez and Ericka Tapia.

MATTAWA - Coach Rudi Christian greeted 28 girls at the first turnout for Warrior volleyball, and she is elated about the opportunity to develop a program

"I'm excited about having three teams," she said.

Among the 28 candidates are three seniors on whom the Warriors will rely heavily. They have been playing since junior high school.

Liliana Ramirez has six years of experience, Jennifer Mendoza has four years of experience, and Ericka Tapia has five years of experience.

"I am looking for senior leadership from those three," Christian said. "I am impressed with their dedication to Warrior volleyball, and I am looking forward to watching them grow throughout the season"

Ramirez has said she wants to make it "a memorable and great season."

Two more returning varsity veterans are Ramirez's younger sister, Rebecca Ramirez, and Maripaz Olivarez.

The sad news is that eight girls graduated from last year's varsity. On the other hand, Christian is finding a few gems among the new turnouts.

"Several of the girls improved tremendously over the summer and will work toward filling the varsity spots," she said.

The Warrior girls will start their season at home on Tuesday, September 17.
