Vernon Eugene Nuss, 81, longtime Moses Lake resident, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday October 13, 2013. A celebration of Vern's life will be held on November 2, 2013 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Rick Nuss home, 4506 Lakeshore Dr. Moses Lake.

Vernon was born in Longmont, Colorado to Otto and Marie (Lefty) Nuss on July 20, 1932 and raised with his sister and two brothers on a farm near Mead, Colorado. Vernon graduated from Mead High School where he played basketball and was a member of the Mead six man football state champion team.

Vernon listed in the Navy where he spent time on the Atlantic ocean and on the East Coast. Upon completion of his Navy service, he returned to farm in Mead.

Vernon married Vera Stern May 8, 1953 and together raised three children, Rick, Steve, and Kay. In 1964 the Nuss family moved their farming operation to Moses Lake where Vernon farmed and operated a custom farming service. Vernon sold his farm in the late 1980's and worked for Radach farms and later for Friehe Farms until his health forced him to retire.

In 1986 Vernon married Candee Dart and his new extended family included Candee's parents, Howard and Angie, sister Carol, and brothers Glenn and Alan, as well as their spouses and children.

Vernon was a member of the Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge. He enjoyed operating farm machinery, camping, fishing and the many large family gatherings. His favorite fishing spot was Lake Koocanusa, Montana, where was able to join friends and family for one last fishing trip a month before he passed.

Vernon is survived by his wife Candee, sons Rick and Steve all of Moses Lake, daughter Kay of Graham, Wa, sister Delores Pratt, and brother Gary (Kathy) Nuss of Colorado, brother Terry (Barbara) Nuss of Texas, his grandchildren Melissa (Chris) Wisener of Spokane, Eric Nuss (Holly) of Seattle and great grandchildren Tyler, Jayce, and Aiden Womack of Spokane, and numerous neices and nephews.

On Vern's behalf, thank you to all family members and friends who made it possible to remain at home through his illness.
