Big Bend drops match to Yakima Valley
MOSES LAKE - Big Bend Community College continued its struggles at the DeVries Activity Center, losing in three games (24-26, 24-26, 22-25) to Yakima Valley Community College Friday.
The Vikings are now 2-4 at home.
Big Bend remains in fourth place in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges East region at 5-6 and holds an overall record of 11-20. The top four teams in each region advance to the NWAACC tournament. Blue Mountain Community College recently clinched a playoff berth and leads the region at 10-0.
Unforced errors plagued the Vikings Friday night. The team combined for 14 attack errors and four serve errors. Big Bend was swept despite having more kills, assists and digs than its competition.
Freshman outside hitter Shania Bateman led the team with 12 kills and recorded an exceptional hitting percentage of .407. Sophomore outside hitter Katie Reeder and freshman middle blocker Whitney Southam contributed eight and nine kills respectively.
Sophomore setter McKall Miller recorded a double-double with 38 assists and 10 digs.
The Vikings play their final home game Wednesday at 6 p.m. against Walla Walla Community College.
