Two Quincy women die in 2-car crash

QUINCY - The Washington State Patrol reports that two Quincy women died late Saturday afternoon when their car was struck head-on by a pickup on Highway 28 three miles east of Quincy.

The driver of the pickup was a teenager from Ephrata. The WSP reported it was unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved. The teenager was wearing his safety restraint.

The collision occurred around 5 p.m. after Spencer W. Cobb, 17, of Ephrata, lost control of his westbound 1998 Dodge Ram pickup.

According to the WSP, Cobb's vehicle drifted to the right shoulder. He over-corrected, the WSP said, and swerved into the eastbound lane, where his vehicle struck the car with the two women.

Injured, Cobb was transported by ambulance to Quincy Valley Hospital. The WSP is investigating the cause of the accident.

The two women were in a 1990 Ford Aerostar van. Judy M. Richardson, 64, of Quincy was the driver. Her passenger was Anna M. Hagerman, 79, of Quincy. Both were wearing their seat belts.

Richardson died at the scene of the accident. Hagerman died at Quincy Valley Hospital.

The Dodge Ram came to rest in the eastbound lane. The Aerostar ended up off the south side of the highway. Both were totaled and had to be towed away.
